Ferrellgas Unveils New Diabetes Awareness
Bobtail to Honor Employee
Ferrellgas is taking the fight against diabetes to the streets in the Springfield, Missouri, area courtesy of a bobtail propane delivery truck.
The trucks will benefit the Missouri and Arkansas-area chapter of the American Diabetes Association and is one of a growing fleet of charity-oriented vehicles launched by Ferrellgas to demonstrate our committment to the communities in which we live and work. The diabetes bobtail was deployed in honor of Dave Wilson and his wife Norma, both of whom are Ferrellgas Employees in the area. The truck carries the names of Dave's late brothers, Russell and Michael Wilson, who lost their fight to the disease.
Diabetes is a group of diseases marked by high levels of blood glucose resulting from defects in insulin production, insulin action or both. Diabetes can lead to serious complications, such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease, lower-limb amputations and premature death. But people with diabetes can take steps to control the disease and lower the risk of complications. According to the American Diabetes Association:
- Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates in 2006.
- 23.6 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes – 7.8% of the population.
