A History of Success
Ferrellgas is celebrating more than 70 years of service, safety, and

1939
A.C. Ferrell establishes the A.C. Ferrell Butane Gas Company in Atchison, Kansas.
1965
Jim Ferrell returns from Fort Lewis,
Washington, where he served as an
Army officer, to take over operations of his father’s business.
1968
Ferrellgas completes its first acquisition, J & J Propane of Rushville, Missouri, for less than
$25,000.
1969
Ferrellgas offices move to Platte City,
Missouri, with the acquisition of
Coffey Oil and Gas, which doubled the amount of product sold. Propane
Industrial started in Kansas City.
1973
Ferrellgas offices move to Kearney,
Missouri, with the acquisition of
Leavitt Propane, which again doubled the size of the company and introduced a
wholesale business.
1975
As a result of the OPEC oil embargo, Ferrellgas develops an underground storage
facility in Little River, Kansas. Also as a result of the oil embargo, Kathol
Petroleum, a natural gas extraction plant, is acquired, introducing Jim Ferrell
to Wall Street.
1981
A trading and supply office opens in Houston, Texas, and corporate headquarters moves to Liberty, Missouri.
1986
Ferrellgas completes its acquisition of Buckeye Gas Products Company, and
grows from a regional propane supplier to a national company.
1994
Ferrellgas becomes a Master Limited Partnership traded on the New York Stock
Exchange under the ticker symbol FGP.
1998
Ferrellgas becomes the first of the industry majors to form an Employee
Stock Ownership Plan when Ferrell Companies, Inc. is sold to Employees.
Jim Ferrell is elected to serve as President of the World LP Gas Association,
headquartered in Paris, France.
1999
The acquisition of Thermogas brings 300,000 Customers in 18 states to the
Ferrellgas family, as well as new business units.
2000
Jim Ferrell is re-elected as President of the World LP Gas Association.
2002
Ferrellgas acquires ProAm, Inc., the 17th-largest propane marketer in the
country.
2003
Ferrellgas acquires an additional six propane companies, bringing the total
number of acquisitions to 65 since the company’s initial public offering.
2004
Ferrellgas completes its merger with Blue Rhino Corporation, the nation's
leading provider of branded propane tank exchange service and a leading
provider of complementary products.
2009
Ferrellgas proudly celebrates its 70th anniversary.
2011
Ferrellgas launches a new business unit to service the ever-growing alternative automotive fuel market, FerrellAutogas.
