Tank Exchange and Refill FAQs

Do I need to have a Blue Rhino-branded tank in order to exchange or refill?

No. We will accept any standard gas grill tank, as long as it is in acceptable condition. We accept all brands for exchange or refill.

How do I know how much gas I have left?

There are three easy ways to figure out how much propane is in your tank:

Where can I find the date on my tank?

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) prohibits the transportation of tanks older than 12 years. Look for a date stamp on or near the collar of the tank. The date (month and year of re-qualification inspection) is usually stamped on the edge of the tank collar.

Does exchange pricing vary greatly between retailers?

Prices for propane exchange vary by retailer, depending on the propane market, the location of the store, and other factors. Please contact your local retailer or Ferrellgas office for the current price.
