Ferrellgas Veterans Fuel Our Freedom
Veterans and first responders have made countless sacrifices in their lives to provide our citizens with the freedom, safety, and peace of mind that makes our country so great. Ferrellgas takes immense pride in employing many individuals who have taken an oath to protect our nation.
Below you’ll find the stories and lived experiences of a few of our employee owners who have served our country, or who share a special bond with those who have.
From fueling aircraft to fueling people’s homes, Bill, a Ferrellgas General Manager, has served his country at home and abroad for more than 20 years. "Prior to starting at Ferrellgas, I served the United States Air Force as a Fuels Specialist and QA Superintendent,” said Bill. “To say fueling freedom is in my blood is an understatement. I have delivered millions of gallons of fuel to aircraft and equipment fighting sites all over the world, including missions in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, South Korea, and on virtually every continent on the globe. I have fueled Air Force One and Marine One in numerous countries around the world. In the Air Force I had the privilege of working with numerous heroes that truly possessed a service before self-attitude and love for our great country. I am proud to say I am a veteran. I had the opportunity to serve our great nation and helped contribute to a legacy that many will grow for centuries to come."
Ever since she was a little girl, Melinda wanted to serve her country. That’s why she enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18 and reported to boot camp days after graduating from high school. In the military, she served as a Logistics Specialist in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and stateside in Fort Lewis, WA and Fort Bragg, NC. Now as a Ferrellgas Customer Service Manager in Lexington, Kentucky, she carries over many life lessons learned during her time in the military, including her personal life motto, your attitude determines your altitude. Melinda said, “In the Army I learned how to be a team player and an effective leader by keeping a positive, can-do attitude and by showing respect to all. At Ferrellgas, I am very lucky to lead a talented group of people and know that I am nothing without them.”
For Joe, his time in the U.S. Air Force means everything to him. So much in fact, that after serving Active Duty in Security Forces between 1984 and 1992, he returned to the Air Force in 2006 as a full-time Reservist. After retiring from the military in 2016, he traded in his Air Force uniform for a Ferrellgas one. Since his first day delivering propane as a Driver, Joe has been honored to work for a company committed to helping veterans. “I’m proud to be part of a company that recognizes veterans and tries to help them out. The veterans recognition program is a way for Ferrellgas to pay it forward.”
