Propane Fireplaces and Heaters for the Holidays

The holidays are about gathering, and a propane fireplace or heater sets the tone the moment guests walk through the door. Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner or just want the house to feel warm and ready for the season, finding the right propane heating solution can make your holiday plans a little easier.

Propane Fireplaces: Ambience for Holiday Gatherings

A propane fireplace does a lot of work in any hosting space, from living and dining rooms to anywhere your family and friends naturally gather. It brings instant warmth and ambience without the upkeep or mess of a wood fire. With the flip of a switch, it can be ready the moment your first guest arrives.

Propane fireplace inserts and freestanding units are both worth considering, depending on the room and how permanent you want the setup to be. As a trusted propane supplier, Ferrellgas can guide you through propane tank installation, so your home and propane appliances have the propane supply they need for the holiday season.

Fireplace installation and venting should be handled by a qualified professional. If your fireplace has sat unused since last winter, it is also a good idea to schedule maintenance and inspection before your first gathering of the season.

Propane Heaters for Indoor and Outdoor Comfort

Propane-powered fire pits and patio heaters help keep outdoor spaces usable for holiday hosting, even as temperatures drop. Portable propane space heaters are designed to deliver targeted heat, raising outdoor air temperatures by up to 25°F and radiating warmth across an area up to 25 feet in diameter. They typically run on a 20-lb cylinder and can be moved wherever guests gather, making them an easy way to extend the party outside.

Indoor propane heaters are great for adding warmth to specific areas of your home, such as basements, workshops, and garages. Options range from portable to freestanding to wall-mounted, giving you flexibility to choose the best fit for your needs. Larger installed heaters connect to your home’s propane supply for a more permanent setup.

Getting Your Home Ready to Host

A little planning ahead means one less thing to think about once your guests arrive:

  • If you are not on an automatic delivery plan, schedule a propane delivery ahead of the holidays. Ordering propane early matters more than it might seem, and waiting to fill your tank can leave you scrambling before an early cold front.
  • Clear snow, ice, and debris from your driveway, walkways, propane tank, and at least 10 feet surrounding your tank to help our team make safe, efficient deliveries.
  • In deep snow, it also helps to mark your tank’s location with a flag or stake.
  • Secure all pets before your scheduled delivery. Keeping animals indoors or behind a fence can help prevent delays or rescheduling.

Ferrellgas offers several convenient ways to schedule a refill. Customers with Will Call delivery service can:

A Few Quick Safety Reminders

Here are a few things worth keeping in mind while you prepare your home for the holidays. For more information, check out our propane safety page or visit Propane.com/safety.

  • Keep holiday decorations, furniture, and anything else that can burn at least 3 feet away from fireplaces, heaters, and any open flames.
  • Never leave a fireplace, heater, or other propane appliance unattended while in use.
  • Install UL-listed carbon monoxide and propane gas detectors on each level of your home. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for location, installation, and maintenance.
  • Use and store propane tanks outside, on a flat surface, and at least 10 feet from buildings and structures. Never store propane tanks indoors or in enclosed spaces such as garages, sheds, basements, and storage units.
  • If you are using a Blue Rhino propane cylinder, ensure you read and follow the safe-use instructions printed on the sleeve.
  • Only use propane heaters inside if they are rated and approved for indoor use, and never use a gas stove, range, oven, or grill to heat your home. Patio heaters should also be used outdoors and kept at least 5 feet from exits. Always turn off heaters before moving them.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s ventilation guidance for propane appliances because proper ventilation is necessary for safe operation.
  • Before first use each season, have a qualified professional inspect your system to help ensure it is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Know what propane smells like and what to do if you suspect a leak.
